PROJECT DESCRIPTION
FrieslandCampina did ask TCPM to compile an Explosion Protection Document according to the ATEX 153-Guideline for the milk powder dumping area in its plant in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. In the production process powdery raw materials are used. These powdery substances (for instance milk powder) can cause explosive atmospheres, which can be ignites by ignition sources. The ATEX 153-Guideline requires employers to inventory the risks for explosions, to take precautionary measures to prevent the risk of explosion and to compile an Explosion Protection Document for such environments. FrieslandCampina did ask a TCPM safety expert to advise and support its safety and technical employees on the ATEX 153-Guideline and compiling an Explosion Protection Document for this particular area in the plant.
The following steps have been taken:
- Determine if combustible products are present and to which extend these combustible products have explosive characteristics.
- Determine to which extend explosive atmospheres can arise.
- If an explosive atmosphere could arise, an Ex-zone will be determined.
- Determine the measures to reduce the Explosion Risk (Reduction of Ex-zone).
- Determine which ignition sources are present in the defined Ex-zones.
- Determine the measures to prevent the ignition of potential ignition sources.
- A basic ATEX training has organized for the employees.
ADDITIONAL VALUE FOR FRIESLANDCAMPINA
Our TCPM safety expert deployed his expertise and delivered a sound basis of the Explosion Protection Document, including actions to reduce the explosion risks. Our expert delivered full support to the safety employees on the ATEX 153-Guideline.
QUOTE FRIESLANDCAMPINA
“Thanks for the visit of your safety expert who has given us the full support and help to learn the ATEX system, says Irfan Siddiqi, plant manager of Friesland Arabia.”
